Move Along – The All-American Rejects

An old song that I still like it…

————
Move Along Lyrics
The All-American Rejects

Go ahead as you waste your days with thinking
When you fall everyone stands
Another day and you’ve had your fill of sinking
With the life held in your
Hands are shaking cold
These hands are meant to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
Move along

So a day when you’ve lost yourself completely
Could be a night when your life ends
Such a heart that will lead you to deceiving
All the pain held in your
Hands are shaking cold
Your hands are mine to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)

When everything is wrong we move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
When everything is wrong, we move along
Along, along, along

When all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
[x3]

(Move along)
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
Right back what is wrong
We move along
[X3]

———

I just love the part (2:16 – 2:31) where he falls into the pool, only to suddenly have a lot of hands up to catch him. I relate it to the time when I stumbled and fall in my life, just to have my friends and family catching me and support me to get back up again.

We all have our downs in life: those situation that seemed hopeless, the obstacle that looked impossible to overcome, the moments that we feel there is no way out and want to just give up. This song is a reminder to me that no matter how shitty is the situation that I am in, I just got to keep going and I’ll make it through somehow.

And life is just like that: Regardless of what happens to anyone or anything, life goes on, It never stops. So, as long as you are alive, it’s never the end. Sometimes you just got to keep moving and something will come up for you along the way. Live! 😀

A Chat with God

A friend of mine shared this on Facebook:

———–
A Chat with GOD

GOD: Hello. Did you call me?
Man: Called you? No. Who is this?

GOD: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.
Man: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something.

GOD: What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.
Man: Don’t know. But I can’t find free time. Life has become hectic. It’s rush hour all the time.
GOD: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results. Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.

Man: I understand. But I still can’t figure out. By the way, I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.
GOD: Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this net era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

Man: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?
GOD: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

Man: why are we then constantly unhappy?
GOD: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That’s why you are not happy.

Man: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?
GOD: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

Man: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty.
GOD: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

Man: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?
GOD: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer. With that experience their life become better not bitter.

Man: You mean to say such experience is useful?
GOD: Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Man: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can’t we be free from problems?
GOD: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons (to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

Man: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don’t know where we are heading.
GOD: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

Man: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?
GOD: Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass. Let others work with the clock.

Man: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?
Jesus: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Man: What surprises you about people?
GOD: When they suffer they ask, “why me? When they prosper, they never ask “Why me” Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.

Man: Sometimes I ask, who I am, why am I here. I can’t get the answer.
GOD: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

Man: How can I get the best out of life?
GOD: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Man: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.
GOD: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.

Man: Thank you for this wonderful chat. I am so happy to start the day with a new sense of inspiration.
GOD: Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don’t believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

Man: Thank you so much.
GOD: You are always welcome. Have a good day my friend.

I find this a very interesting and enlightening read. The answers to those questions that the man asked are all lessons that can be a reference to life. I hope you enjoy the “chat” and learnt something for it too.

I am not able to find who was the original author of this, but if you do know, please let me know so I can give the proper credits. 😀

Solving Problems with the Mind

‘You cannot solve the same problem with the same mind that created it.’

This is what came up while I was having a short chat with my good friend, Will, last night. I was talking to him about how some issues in my life have been bothering my mind lately and how I was disinterested in doing anything else once I got home from work. We chatted on for a bit and he came up with the line above.

It hit right on the dot. Looking back, my energy & my attitude towards things in my life for the past few weeks has been the same. My focus was on the problem, rather than the things & results I want to accomplished. Even when I shifted my view, the focus of those view still come from that same state of mind (there will be another post about this state of mind later). And due to that, I was having a hard time shifting myself.

It’s funny that the moment he mentioned the quote, I just felt something shifted in me. It’s probably cause Will somehow shared his higher energy state of mind with me. 🙂

I decided right then to do something about my state of mind this weekend (also in the other post later). And today, I felt a lot better and though it was a very slow and sluggish start, I got some of the things done. It felt even better when I completed something. 😀

So, if you find yourself stuck in a similar situation, remember, You cannot solve the same problem with the same mind that created it. You got to look at it from another state of mind. Take a break and allow your mind to shift. And sometimes, sharing it with another mind may just help.  Cheers!

P.S: The original quote is actually by Albert Einstein:
‘You can never solve a problem on the level on which it was created.’

Isang Litrong Liwanag

Isang Litrong Liwanag means a liter of light in Tagalog (Philippines national Language).

What an idea! Using a thrown away plastic bottle, water & a little bit of bleach, you can get an electric free light source in your house. It’s practical, it’s cheap and it works!

It would seems the idea came from MyShelter Foundation, which aims to use this idea to allow poor people to have light in their house as well. Their have a vision to brighten up one million homes in the Philippines by 2012. If you want to help them out, check out their homepage @ http://isanglitrongliwanag.org/.

If you are part of a community or movement that is helping the poor, this is probably an awesome idea to work with! So share it out! =D

I had a very long day at work today, almost 17 hours total. I was pretty drained and was zonning out. While I was checking my mails and Facebook Updates, I bump into this amusing video showing a few dogs’ reaction to a missing bowl of food.

The video just cheered me up and I felt a lot better. I hope the video will cheer you up too. Now to get a good rest….

The Pontiac that was Allergic to Vanilla Ice Cream

This is a true story that I heard from one of my senior at work. An interesting read, especially for engineers and IT engineers. Being a Hardware Support Engineer myself, I can relate a lot of the cases that I have worked on to the situation.

To quote Sherlock Holmes, “When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

————–

The Pontiac that was Allergic to Vanilla Ice Cream

For the engineers among us who understand that the obvious is not always the solution, and that the facts, no matter how implausible, are still the facts …

A complaint was received by the Pontiac Division of General Motors:
“This is the second time I have written you, and I don’t blame you for not answering me, because I kind of sounded crazy, but it is a fact that we have a tradition in our family of ice cream for dessert after dinner each night. But the kind of ice cream varies so, every night, after we’ve eaten, the whole family votes on which kind of ice cream we should have and I drive down to the store to get it. It’s also a fact that I recently purchased a new Pontiac and since then my trips to the store have created a problem. You see, every time I buy vanilla ice cream, when I start back from the store my car won’t start. If I get any other kind of ice cream, the car starts just fine. I want you to know I’m serious about this question, no matter how silly it sounds: ‘What is there about a Pontiac that makes it not start when I get vanilla ice cream, and easy to start whenever I get any other kind?'”

The Pontiac President was understandably sceptical about the letter, but sent an engineer to check it out anyway. The latter was surprised to be greeted by a successful, obviously well-educated man in a fine neighbourhood. He had arranged to meet the man just after dinner time, so the two hopped into the car and drove to the ice cream store. It was vanilla ice cream that night and, sure enough, after they came back to the car, it wouldn’t start.

The engineer returned for three more nights. The first night, the man got chocolate. The car started. The second night, he got strawberry. The car started. The third night he ordered vanilla. The car failed to start.

Now the engineer, being a logical man, refused to believe that this man’s car was allergic to vanilla ice cream. He arranged, therefore, to continue his visits for as long as it took to solve the problem. And toward this end he began to take notes: he jotted down all sorts of data, time of day, type of gas used, time to drive back and forth, etc.

In a short time, he had a clue: the man took less time to buy vanilla than any other flavour. Why? The answer was in the layout of the store.

Vanilla, being the most popular flavour, was in a separate case at the front of the store for quick pickup. All the other flavours were kept in the back of the store at a different counter where it took considerably longer to find the flavour and get checked out.

Now the question for the engineer was why the car wouldn’t start when it took less time. Once time became the problem — not the vanilla ice cream — the engineer quickly came up with the answer: vapour lock. It was happening every night, but the extra time taken to get the other flavours allowed the engine to cool down sufficiently to start. When the man got vanilla, the engine was still too hot for the vapour lock to dissipate.

Moral of the story: even insane-looking problems are sometimes real.

————–

Even in life, we sometimes will bump into weird problem or situations. And in some of those times , it is these tiny little external factors (which is totally unrelated to problem/situation) that can point us to the cause.  And once we know the cause, solving it will be a lot easier.

In the world we live in now, when faced with a problem, most people would want instant solution most of the time. I am like that at times too. And I noticed that when I am too focus on solving the problem fast, my view and thinking process narrowed down just to that. And I would sometimes forget or have difficulties looking at the situation from other possible views. Taking a step back from the problem, having a shift in my focus, allows me space to look at the problem differently. And sometimes, that is all it takes to allow me to grasp that situation and solve it.

So, when you face a problem in your life that you have been trying to solve unsuccessfully, try taking a step back and look at the problem in a different view. Seek for a different opinion and do something different. And maybe, the solution will appear to you then.

Hope you enjoyed the story and my sharing.

The Book of Living Magic

I happened to bump into this game called “The Book of Living Magic” while I was finding some game to play.

This is a simple game with a very interesting story line. It requires quite a lot of reading, but that is exactly what brings the story to live and add fun into it. I enjoyed the process of exploration, the creativeness and the story line of the game. The music fits in very well with the game too in my opinion.

If you like to read short and interesting story, I would invite you to give this game a try. I hope you will enjoy the process of it as I have.

——————-
Personal Insight

For me, the game and it’s story is somewhat a reflection of our world is right now: Realistic. Like the child in the game, we are born with the gifts of imagination, of believing the possibilities, to dream and to enjoy and be awed by the simplest things in life.

Yet in the process of education, we were taught to survive in the society. Rules, Limitation, Realistic, Survival of the World, was taught to us. As for the gifts, it suddenly became unimportant in the process of surviving in our society. Some of us pretend the gifts are no longer there, some block it out unconsciously and some of us may have even forgotten these gifts that we have, or even cease to believe them. But there are also those who remember the gifts, and still use them in their daily lives. These are the people which I believe, live a happy and fulfilling lives.

Regardless, always remember that these gifts are still in us. The question is whether we want them in our life. I have chosen to have them in my life. There are times in my own life when I ignore these gifts or forget about them, but when I am aware and go back to them, I have found them to be a supporting stone for me from time to time. As to quote Steven Tyler,”Life’s a Journey, not a destination.” So, let your gifts be part of your journey, and enjoy it. =D
